124:8 Our deliverer is the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth.
Everybody needs a deliverer. Our culture would nowadays usually tell us we need to be our own deliverers. I'd say "deliverer" is a pretty good description of who or what our god is. If I trust in someone or something to deliver me from my pain or my loneliness or my ________, then that something has become my deliverer and my god. The question is: Is God my god?
Reminding myself who God is - Creator of heaven and earth, Lord - helps me to trust in Him as deliverer.
119:37 Turn my eyes away from what is worthless! Revive me with your word!
The last week or so, it really has been "reviving" to my soul to somehow be able to wake up every morning on time to get time with God. So often my eyes are on what is "worthless" rather than on God and His Word.
I find it interesting that the prayer is for God to turn my eyes. How does one turn someone else's eyes? I wouldn't say the prayer here is for God to remote-control my eyes. Rather the way I get someone to change what they're looking at is by presenting something better to look at instead.
And this is my prayer: O God, "unveil Thy beauty to my sight that I might love Thee more."
